25.03.08 Sam's report
I would like to start by thanking everyone at Bournemouth Dolphins for making me feel so welcome since my arrival at the club. I am now in my third month as Assistant Head Coach and after the Dorset County Championships in February and the recent County sprints I would just like to say how excited I am about the potential of this club. It was my first opportunity to watch the Bournemouth swimmers compete and I was very pleased with what I saw. It was a real pleasure watching so many swimmers performing so well and even better to see everyone enjoying themselves on poolside. The majority of swimmers gained some fantastic personal best times and won the bulk of heats they competed in. What is great was that the majority of the standout performances came from swimmers under the age of 13 meaning that the future is very bright for Bournemouth Dolphins Swimming Club and I am very excited to be a part of that. My role is to produce multi skilled swimmers with a solid aerobic base and to work with Graham in taking this club to the very top of club swimming in this country. We have the talent, we have the structure and most importantly we have your support. Thanks again and have a great Easter.

The land training will be very important to the development of core strength and will help swimmers fundamental skills in the water. Swimmers will still be expected to arrive on poolside at least 5 minutes before the start of the session which is still 5.45pm. If you are going to be late for whatever reason please inform me. Sam Woodward

09.01.08 With immediate effect there will no training on Tuesday or Thursday mornings.

We are simply losing far too much money on these poorly attended sessions.

Selecting the squad has been very difficult and I am sure there will be additions to it. However we only have 3 lanes and the original squad was simply too big. The team will be selected from this squad. Training will be as normal with Potential B starting at 0530 on training days and the team expected to train and then to stay for team training.

  • As a club we are going to target the Norwich Easter Open meet .

Isobel will have details and we have guaranteed places for 25 swimmers. This is a major targeted meet at level 2 where both Sam and I will attend. We are hoping to have hotel details very soon. (Contact Ann & Bill about the pubs ! (Ed))

  • Various spreadsheets are attached with updated squads and yearly planners.
  • I have updated the Time Trial results and highlighted the potential improvements when swimming at night. The highlighted times are from the Rossmore gala. -Graham

21.11.07 Please find attached the Junior League Squad for 2008. Click here for a copy. You will see selection for the team will be very tough. I have aged everybody as of 21 June 2008. Training will start in Jan 2008. There is an AGM for the league on the 19th Jan when the rules could change again, will keep you posted. If I have placed your child in the wrong age group please let me know ASAP likewise if I have missed anyone . Please look at the new calendar later today for the 3 dates you need to keep free. I believe they are 19th Apr, 18th May and the 21st Jun.
Time Trials sheets have been posted on the main notice board at Littledown or click here for a copy. Please look at events that you need for County qualification, remember that 10 year old boys/girls & 11 year boys who qualify for the 200 m events automatically qualify for the 100 m events. Please read below. I am hoping that we can complete the programme on the 22nd but have the 29th as a back up. County qualifying times are on the notice board downstairs at Littledown.

21.11.07 Re: 100m events - 10 year old boys/girls and 11 year old boys
Following confirmation that 10 year old boys/girls and 11 year old boys are eligible to compete in 100m events provided they qualify for and enter the 200m event in the same stroke, I have received a query with regard to qualifying/consideration times in 100m events.
It is quite possible that, due to a swimmer's age, they have not been able to acquire an ASA time in 100m events and, in which case, the following will apply at the Dorset County Championships 2008:
* Swimmers may enter a 100m event if they have qualified for and are accepted in the 200m event in that stroke even if they have no official time
* Any swimmer entering 100m events without an official time will be given a plugged time which will be slower than the slowest official time entered* All swimmers in any one event without an official time will be given the same plugged time
* Swimmers with plugged times will be seeded in alphabetical order and compete in the first heat or heats depending on numbers
Please note that this ruling applies ONLY to 10 year old boys/girls and 11 year old boys entering 100m events. Best Wishes Di

21.11.07 No Club Champs- Please note it is not possible to proceed with the Club Champs which had been scheduled for November and December, however, time trials will be organised during December to ensure all children have the opportunity to obtain times for the Dorsets.  Details about these will be issued in due course
.
